First Children Interior Water Paints Standard Released in Shanghai

Recently, Shanghai Chemical Building Material Trade Association, jointly with Shanghai Consumers Council and 18 leading coatings companies, has released the children interior water paints standard for Shanghai social organizations (T31/01002-C001-2014), which is the first bill of children interior waterborne coatings domestically.

The standard has restricted the harmful substances contained by children coatings products, improving the environmental requirements, to regulate the architectural coatings market and create a level playing field, which lead consumers to have more chances to choose the high-quality inwall water paints. It is reported that the standards turn out to be the historically strictest on quantitative index of chemical properties, like washability, stain resistance, VOC content, free formaldehyde, chromium (IV) content

Reporters have learned that the following standard not only is one of the first ten standards approved by Shanghai Government, but a significant attempt for the paint industry to set, use and manage its standard. However, it now is not mandatory but recommendatory, so the popularity of the standard still remains to be seen.

Children coatings emerged in recent years have been put on the market featuring" designed for children".  Since its potential consumers are children, many properties like environmental protection and washability draw a lot of attention. The experts say that a number of environmentally friendly children coatings with high prices in fact are not different from the ordinary, and zero formaldehyde volatilization also is just a promotional stunt of paint shops。
