Ongoing lighting refurbishment at one of Rabobank’s oldest branches, yields energy savings of over 70%

As one of the oldest branches in the Rabobank network, the London Branch is uniquely tuned to the important role played by the City of London in the global economy and strategically aligned to represent Rabobank in one of the world’s most dynamic financial centres.

Rabobank London embarked on a long-term refurbishment project with the aim of reducing energy consumption and heat emission. All the building’s services were assessed and lighting played a crucial role in meeting the objectives.

Jamie Yates, TRILUX Lighting, International Key Accounts, explains, “We have worked with Rabobank and their landlords CBRE across several projects, looking at different areas of the building where we can save energy. So far, we have completed installations in the main offices, corridors, atrium, canteen, data centre, plant room and other auxiliary areas. Previously the offices had fluorescents fittings, so a switch to one of our LED products, specifically designed for retrofit, was ideal, both in terms of energy savings and in heat reduction.”

Douglas Carr, Rabobank, Facilities Building Services Manager, continues, “Our focus for this branch was to reduce our energy consumption. The old fluorescents in our offices were inefficient and the LED alternatives were offering energy savings of over 70% when combined with Daylight and presence detection lighting management. However, the final deciding factor was the class leading 8-year extended warranty we were offered to match our lease period.”

“We have improved the lighting colour and levels, plus achieved big energy reductions. The new lighting products have played a central role in our overall concept and they have brightened the work place. Furthermore, due to the increased efficiency of the lighting we were able to qualify for the Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) Scheme” Douglas concludes.

The ECA scheme provides 100% first year tax relief on qualifying capital expenditure, including highly efficient LED luminaires.
