The Lighting Industry Academy’s LIA Certificate has been developed to provide an excellent ‘grounding in lighting’ for a wide audience and has proven to be the catalyst for many long and very successful careers in the lighting industry.

The LIA Certificate embodies the philosophy of the Academy and aligns itself with Sponsor, Mackwell, respected not only one of the leading providers of technology solutions for the global lighting industry. Mackwell also practice the core principles of the importance of knowledge and training.

Each year students submit their final project for judging. This year five finalists were chosen from over one hundred and thirty entries.

The finalists were:

William Blows from Whitecroft Lighting

Carla Piatti from Glamox Luxo

Neil Postlethwaite from Electric Cente

Jason Toland from A Division Blackpool Group

And Alex Walker from Simmtronic Ltd

The finalists presented their work on the 4th May at the Academy based in Telford, to the judging panel consisting of LIA Certificate Tutors Barrie Wilde and Paul Stearman.

The finalists attended the LIA's Annual Luncheon Event on 10th May where the Mackwell Outstanding Student of the Year was announced by incoming LIA President, Dave Ribbons of Lutron EA Ltd

The Mackwell Outstanding Student of the Year went to Neil Postlethwaite from Electric Center, who was presented with the crystal LIA Certificate Award Bowl, along with a certificate and cheque for £500.

The runners up were Carla Piatti from Glamox Luxo and Alex Walker from Simmtronic Ltd. They also received a crystal bowl, certificate and cheque for £250.

All the Finalists should be commended on their professionalism, the time and energy put into their projects and their exceptional presentations.

The LIA and Academy would like to thank the judging panel for their time and enthusiasm and Mackwell, not just for their continued support of the Awards but also for their commitment to the Academy as newly enrolled Academy Ambassador.
