Coventry University Hub – P4 Lighting

Coventry University’s latest addition to its city centre campus is known as The Hub.

The £32m building has been equipped with P4’s M-Web state of the art self-testing emergency lighting monitoring system. The Hub forms part of a £150m redevelopment programme, which will transform the campus.

The Hub provides the ideal environment for both study and socialising. Throughout the day, the building offers a relaxing environment to meet up with friends or study informally. In the evening it is also a vibrant venue where bars, 700-capacity club, a cinema and performing arts space, tailor-made to deliver an excellent student experience.

The Hub is also the greenest building on campus and sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design; construction and operation. It uses ground source cooling, has natural ventilation, solar water heating, a green roof, and is managed by an electronic buildings management system
“Given the scope and size of this exciting new facility, which will be in use around the clock, we needed to ensure that our emergency lighting system would provide the safest, most accurate and convenient remote monitoring procedure through its Local Area Network,” says Colin Griffiths, an electrical engineer at the University.

The University chose the M-Web monitoring system from P4 as the most proven, reliable, cost effective and flexible self-testing computer addressable solution for the buildings within the complex. They had used M-Web in other locations throughout the University estate, and the system has proved very reliable and straightforward to use.

“We worked well together to meet all the challenges created by the project’s size and scope and to complete the emergency lighting tests. Another significant challenge was to get the lights correctly identified with an accurate location to ease maintenance tasks or carry out repairs efficiently.
