If you’re passing through the California desert between now and April 30, keep your eyes peeled for reflective houses, graphic walls, and converted billboards—they may be works by famous contemporary artists. The first-ever Desert X exhibition, now on view, displays site-specific artwork across Coachella Valley.
The showcase, curated by Neville Wakefield, reimagines the desert landscape. The arid terrain springs to life with pieces like The Circle of Land and Sky, Phillip K Smith III’s ring of mirrored plinths, and Monument, Will Boone’s underground bunker. There are 16 works in total, which can be located via coordinates on the Desert X website.
Desert X is free and open to the public, and a hub with catalogs and maps is located at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs.
